Enterprise Financials and HR System Replacement

Background

As one of the largest and most diverse academic medical centers in the country, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center includes the College of Medicine, The Ohio State University Health System, and The Ohio State University Physicians, Inc. The College of Medicine includes the School of Allied Medical Professions and the School of Biomedical Science. The Ohio State University Health System includes University Hospital, The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, University Hospital East, OSU Harding, the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, a federally designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, a network of more than 80 physician offices located throughout central Ohio, and the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital.

As a part of the The Ohio State University, OSUWMC shares a number of administrative systems with the University such as the PeopleSoft Financials and Human Capital Management suite. 

Business Problem:

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center along with The Ohio State University has an aging financials and supply chain management system, PeopleSoft Financials v8.4, and required and independent third party assessment to determine the best path forward to support operations.

In addition, the numerous business processes associated with the Financials system vary widely between the operations within the Medical Center and the University. As part of the assessment, opportunities for standardization and improved efficiency across the enterprise were also identified and included.

Approach

Navigator Management Partners engaged with leaders across The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and The University to establish a vision, identify a set of strategic goals, analyze peer institutions, and develop a number of key decision criteria by which to score the options and develop a recommendation.

Results

Navigator Management Partners provided a recommendation on the best possible option to address the University’s aging financials system. Navigator is now supporting the efforts to plan and implement Workday across the enterprise. Roles on this strategic initiative range from project management, business process leadership and analysis, testing and deployment leadership, application development, and organization change management services.
